Description
Position: Yellowstone Boys and Girls Ranch Foundation, established in 1984 and located in Billings, MT, seeks an individual with a passion for helping emotionally troubled children for a long-term, full-time position as its Trust and Investment Accountant.
Primary Functions: Administer charitable trusts and gift annuities utilizing industry-specific software, including NetSuite (Oracle), Financial Edge (Blackbaud), and GiftWrap (PG Calc) to ensure timely and accurate payments to donors, account for trust income and expenses, interpret investment statements to calculate, monitor and report on trust values, prepare annual form 5227 Split-Interest Trust Information Returns and related tax forms using tax software.
Specific Job Functions:
1. Record and administer charitable trusts by sending payments to trust beneficiaries monthly, quarterly, semi-annually, and annually as required in each trust agreement; calculate funds needed for payments to donors; review, approve and code trust revenues and expenses; record monthly/quarterly activity from trust investment accounts in software; determine if revenues and expenses are principal or income, per the trust document and Montana Trust Code; audit current trusts to ensure compliance with trust documents; prepare annual trust valuations; finalize annual trust accounting reports; prepare annual trust financial activity/Balance Sheet summaries for each trust; prepare annual letters to trust beneficiaries; prepare the IRS trust tax returns in February/March of each year for each trust and for final approval and filing; complete Annual Trust Checklist for each trust to ensure the Foundation meets its fiduciary responsibilities; ensure payment of property taxes and obtain insurance coverage for trust assets; close out termed trust files.
2. Record and Administer gift annuities by sending payments to donors monthly, quarterly, semiannually and annually as required in each annuity agreement; determine funds needed for annuity payments; record monthly activity from investment accounts in NetSuite; prepare and submit 1099R reporting for donors annually; close out termed annuities.
3. Communicate directly and effectively with outside third parties including Bankers, Investment Advisors, Brokers and their related support personnel.
4. Prepare quarterly investment report and report results to the Board of Director’s Investment Committee.
5. Manage scholarship and donor advised funds; ensure monies are received to fund payments; send payments to scholarship recipients, educational institutions, and beneficiaries.
6. Serve as backup for Accounting Clerk position.
7. Perform other duties as assigned.
Reports to: Chief Planned Giving Officer, Yellowstone Boys and Girls Ranch Foundation
Salary: $32.00 - $36.00 per hour, depending on education and experience. This is a non-exempt position. Requirements:
1. Bachelor’s or Associate’s level degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field preferred.
2. Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Windows in a networked environment, ability to learn new software including NetSuite and Financial Edge.
3. Minimum three years accounting or related business experience, non-profit fund accounting experience preferred.
4. Exceptional communication skills and the ability to work with outside third parties.
5. Ability to understand, interpret, execute, and follow the language in trust agreements and documents.
6. Work is primarily in an office environment, located in Billings, Montana, on weekdays during normal business hours. The position involves frequent sitting, continuous full use of hands, keyboarding, clear vision, the ability to speak and hear normal conversation, and intermittently moving or carrying 5 to 25 pounds. The position requires high attention to detail with frequent deadlines.
